Children and Worship
Families of all sizes, shapes and hues are welcome and cherished at Saint Mark United Methodist Church. Families with children are welcome in all three of our services of worship (9:00 am Traditional, 9:00 am Celebration and 11:15 am Traditional).
Childcare for Infants and Toddlers
Loving and tender care for infants and toddlers is provided by trained staff and volunteers in our nursery, located in two rooms behind the large staircase in the atrium. We have pagers so you can feel secure that you can be reached if your child has an immediate need. Childcare is offered through all three worship services as well as during Sunday School.
Begin your Sunday by worshiping together as a family. During our 9:00 am services, children are invited up to receive a special message from our Minister of Children’s Discipleship, Lydia Dever. Then children, ages 3 and up, are invited to leave worship to attend our Children’s Church until the conclusion of each service. They will be escorted to our Children’s Church room (A101) located on the first floor of the atrium. Parents can pick them up there at the conclusion of worship.
For all children who remain in worship, there are special worship bags filled with items to keep children involved in worship. These items change weekly to relate to what the lesson of the day is. These bags are located on the table in the Narthex of the main Sanctuary and on table in back in the Celebration Service.
Children’s Participation in Worship
Throughout the year, there are opportunities for children to participate in worship. In October we observe a special Children’s Sabbath on Sunday morning and the children participate in the entire service. At other times, children from our our Wednesday evening program for children (Charge) sing for us during worship. On some Sunday’s we have the children of all ages come up to play our children’s hand bells. These bells, along with the children, create an instant concert that all children will love. Our earliest service at 5:30 pm on Christmas Eve is especially for children and families. The children play an important role in this Christmas Eve celebration.
